While there are statistically less Mauritians who donate blood during winter, there are patients who continue to need donors to give life-saving blood and plasma.

The Blood Donors Association is asking new and returning donors to show up to help others.

With COVID-19 restrictions having been eased partially, many Mauritians have nonetheless returned to a new normal.

Renewed travel and family activities make it difficult for people to find time to donate, but the demand for blood and blood products never stops.

Patients are grateful for Mauritians who take the time to donate either at mobile collection drives or at any regional hospitals:

Blood Bank, Candos
Dr J. Nehru Hospital, Rose Belle
Dr A. G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis
SSRNH, Pamplemousses
Dr B. Chong Hospital, Central Flacq

Opening hours

Sunday and Public Holiday: Closed

Donation eligibility criteria is available on the FAQ section.

In addition to blood, plasma and platelets donors are needed to support patients requiring lifesaving treatment.

Craving ice on a hot day is both normal and common. But if your craving is persistent, and seems unrelated to heat or thirst, it may be due to a nutritional deficiency.
